School safety, rethought

Watching Spaces, not students

Most school safety technology looks at children. Spatial intelligence looks after the building, and never sees a face.

Thirty seconds: what a camera sees, what sensing sees, and what never leaves the building.

Most school safety tech

Cameras, scanners, AI monitoring

  • Looks at faces, bags, messages and voices
  • Covers entrances and hallways
  • Can't go in bathrooms or locker rooms
  • In a lockdown: hallway views and closed doors
  • Someone has to be watching the screen
  • Footage stored in a vendor's cloud

Spatial intelligence

Camera-free WiFi sensing with RuView

  • Knows only that someone is there and how they're moving
  • Covers every room, through walls and in the dark
  • Notices when someone goes down and doesn't get up, even there
  • In a lockdown: a live count of people in every room
  • Sends an adult where they're needed
  • Runs on site, and nothing leaves the building

Not a replacement for cameras or people. An added layer that helps adults show up.

What each one sees

Same hallway. Two ways of seeing it.

A camera captures every child's face. Spatial intelligence knows only where people are and how they're moving.

Camera view

Faces found, tracked and stored

Camera feed of a school hallway: five gray human silhouettes standing in the corridor, each with a red target box and crosshair locked over the face and a red tag reading ID 4471 match 97 percent, ID 3915 91 percent, ID 2208 match 94 percent.
5 faces detected · 5 identified

Every face recorded, matched and saved to a hard drive.

People, places and movement

Sensing view of the same school hallway: the corridor drawn in teal wireframe lines, four WiFi nodes mounted on the walls sending out signal arcs, and glowing ripple rings on the floor marking five people with no faces and no images.
5 people · 0 faces · 0 images

No faces. No images. Just where people are and how they're moving.

How it's built

Off the shelf, or built for your school

Most safety vendors sell one product to thousands of districts. Cognitum builds each school's solution on the same open RuView foundation.

Off-the-shelf products

Built and maintained for sales at scale

  • One product, set up the same way for every district
  • Features decided by the vendor's roadmap
  • Updates arrive when the vendor ships them
  • Support through a ticket queue
  • A closed system you can't see inside
Cogn1tum

A client of one

Built for your school and community

  • Designed around your building, your schedule and your community
  • Tuned with direct help from the team that built RuView
  • Over-the-air updates tuned to your site
  • A partner who knows your school by name
  • An open-source foundation anyone can inspect

The same open technology anyone can use. A solution only your school has.

Rules we put in writing
  • ▸Sensing never joins the student record. Room counts and movement stay in the building's safety system and are never linked to a child.
  • ▸An alert is a question for an adult. It sends someone to look. It never decides anything about a child.
  • ▸Measured before it's trusted. Every pilot measures accuracy in your own building before your staff relies on it.

Students learn the same technology. In the Omega Bridge program, families flash two small sensing boards in week one and write their own data constitution: who may sense whom, where sensors may live, what gets kept.
